In some machine shops that I’ve worked in over the years the machinists if needed would centre a smaller 3 or 4 jaw chuck into a larger 3 or 4 jaw chuck to save time………..what do I know about machining? F*&k all cause being a welder I used to keep a machinist in my tool box 😂😂😂

Precision is expensive. Most stuff today is manufactured to a price point that is low, thanks Walmart for showing the world how to bully manufacturers. It's super frustrating to buy crap. Your head has to be on swivel looking for how you're going to get f*cked when you buy something. That said your videos regularly make me laugh out loud. Who would have thought that a guy doing machining videos would be so hilarious??? Such a bonus for my normally sedate hobby

Use butane as a shield instead?

I just grabbed one of these for $300 so couldn't resist it. Will use it for small things like bearing carriers for gokarts type things. I've made several by chucking the pipe in a drill and running a dremel sanding disk in the opposite direction of the drill to get grind the right diameter etc.... I figure the mini lathe would do better than this.

When buying cheap collects, hold them up to the light and check for swalf between the slits. Almost ever collet I bought had swalf in between the slits that would definitely make them run out.

That's what I get for watching your videos in reverse order. 😁 But seriously, I have an old (1970's) vintage Lincoln TIG-300/300 welder with a saturatable core transformer rather tham today's modern IGBT solid state units. It's new enough to use a 10K pot and a circuit board to control the core current but too old to find any documentation or even a used pedal designed for it. There must be some Google-foo cross talk between UA-cam and Ebay, because my searches for info and used pedals led me to this video. Great info! While I enjoy your dry sense of humor its also nice to see a more serious side. You sir, are a modern day Da Vinci in many ways.

I nearly went nuts building a spread sheet to do taper calcs , stack height calculations for sinebars because I am not very good at math . However I was successful in the end and now I can do it easily in the spread sheets for any length sinebar . You can also build a sine bar attachment for the lathe compound slide and set it against the tail stock shaft or a bar between centers . with the correct stack height ring thickness on one shaft to set the compound to a short taper cut . Once you have the ring for a certain taper like a Morse taper 2 it's so easy to set it to machine another one . I don't do machining work anymore due to war injuries and tooling becoming so expensive now .

I bought a 7 collet set for $20 from a reputable seller then again, it is for an ER11 chuck, so $2.85 each is probably correct

Hi Tony! For a shop with just a drill press would you say a machine in the lowest budget (like the one presented) is a good choice, or is it better to buy something closer to $1500? Like the Warco WM180 for example.

That smell is probably hydrogen selenide or at least thats what the SDS says. Its a toxic flammable gas that "has a very irritating smell resembling that of decayed horseradish or "leaking gas", but smells of rotten eggs at higher concentrations" according to wikipedia so yes don't breath the fumes
